Online Training Vs. In-person Training For Administering Botox

by Alina Karemin

Botulinum toxin injections, fondly called Botox injections, are now common practice the world of cosmetic surgery. From treating fine lines to relaxing muscles and even treating complex medical conditions, Botox injections have become part and parcel of advanced medical treatment. To be licensed to deliver Botox injections, medical professionals have to complete the in-depth training required. The internet is a great resource for knowledge, and some people are looking to the web to get the certification needed to deliver these treatments.

Can one learn all they need to administer Botox injections online? Or should one undergo hands-on training alone. Well, the answer is that both of them go hand-in-hand. Let's take a look at this further.

Training online

The knowledge can be absorbed by the learner online at their own pace and in their own home, which many people find more appealing. One can view live seminars and what are called webinars, as well as videos and other kinds of courses that are available online. People can choose to watch lessons on DVD as well, and many training courses will send these to their students.

While the above makes online training very appealing, it is important to realize that Botox injections are a hands-on procedure. It is pretty much impossible to learn a procedure just by watching it without actually practicing it. For example, one cannot become a dentist by watching videos on how to perform different dental procedures. For the skills required to perform these complex procedures independently on patients, one must actually have an experienced physician supervise the procedure while the person is learning.

Learning hands-on

Hands-on training is where it the trainee has an opportunity to perform this procedure on either a volunteer or a training dummy. This is supervised usually by a doctor and the trainee will re-do the process over and over, until the doctor is certain that it can be done independently with a high degree of safety for the patient. Having an expert present during this training means that the process will be learned correctly, and mistakes will be pointed out; this won't happen by training on the internet because criticism is not possible.

Probably the main disadvantage of hands-on training is the required manpower. It's a challenge to find the time for a busy professional to go to a training seminar in order to show trainees the correct procedures. The venue will need to be organized and this sort of activity can take time. But if one would consider the bigger picture i.e. patient safety and outcome, there is no doubt that hands-on training is by far the better option when compared to online training.

Combining hands-on with online training

Utilizing these methods in combination makes the most sense for those who are learning Botox injection treatments. Online training programs can help allow trainees to read theory and watch certain training videos prior to attending the hands-on training program. After viewing and learning from the internet, the trainee can go to the hands-on training with sufficient knowledge to go through the processes much easier. Today, these methods combined are the most effective to train. A trainee can now watch a detailed animation of a Botox injection procedure, and when they go to the hands-on training later, this knowledge will be highly beneficial.

Synopsis

Online training and hands-on training for Botox injections go hand-in-hand. Each of them have their own advantages and disadvantages but together they can form an excellent and effective training program for future Botox injection providers.
