In paintball there are many roles. One of the most sought after is the sniper. At a young age, boys will dream of becoming one, and older guys can try to be one. Paintball represents a chance for people who have the balls to try an live the sniper dream out.
To take on the role of a sniper, you need to forget all of the mainstream tactics you've picked up over the years. "Spray and pray" is dead to you, and one shot kills are your best friend. Instead of aggression you apply patience and stealth, moving and firing only when necessary. If you're accustomed to shooting thousands of rounds a game, you'll most likely need to go through a break in period to get used to the change in play.
Having the right gear is of course a crucial element in becoming a sniper. You must have an adequate marker and camouflage to be effective. The marker should preferably complement the sniper playing style, so it doesn't need to shoot a thousand balls per second. A perfect marker is one that is consistent, highly reliable, and has good range. Double emphasis on reliability. Pump paintball guns or Tippmann's are both great options.
Many snipers end up getting a pump action paintball marker or Tippmann with a Flatline barrel. These are the most common setups among snipers, as they both offer great benefits. Since a pump is slower, you will need to rely focus on aiming to make every shot count.
For those that don't want a pump, that's fine too. Another alternative is to get a marker by Tippmann. Their markers are popular for a number of reasons. They are durable, reliable, consistent and highly upgradeable. One of the biggest things to note about their markers, is the Flatline. A Flatline is a curved barrel that can only be put only on their markers. What makes it a valuable tool for a sniper is how it can double your range.
Both options are great. Some people just love being the underdog, and are naturally drawn to a pump marker. Others see the Flatline and must have it. Either are fine.
No matter what marker you get, pump or Tippmann, you can further accessorize it into the ultimate paintball sniper rifle.
