Minimise The Risk Of Accidents And Illness With An Effective Heath And Safety Training Program

by Peter Kelly

A healthy working environment depends on a clearly defined program of training. Neglecting to follow health and safety guidelines properly in the workplace often leads to accidents, or in the worst case scenario, fatalities. Employers can protect their own interests and their staff with quality health and safety training for all employees. Employers have a legal obligation to provide safe working conditions for theor employees.

Health and safety guidelines can become part of the normal routine once employers are fully aware of them. In no time, staff unconciously follow legislation and regulations with ease.

Employers can select from a range of tailored training packages. Whether a small or large company, there will be a package to fit your requirements. Health and safety legislation, risk assessment, manual handling and risk assessment are some of the topics that are covered. Another option employers go for, is to ask a safety officer to visit the workplace to assess and train individuals and teach them how to follow guidelines correctly.

Health and safety at work should not be a pressure for employers to worry about, this percieved burden is easily relieved through either of these options.

For the most effective results, training should be repeated every few months, not on an annual basis. This allows for the training of new employees who might not have the competence they require. In the absence of regular training, staff could be employed for a long time before recieving any training. This set routine ensures that all staff are regularly reminded of the important guidelines.

Training fees can be off putting to companies, particularly in the current economic climate, however staff training is not an area to cut corners. Accidents in the workplace, property damage, illness and related delays in work are all a great deal more expensive than the cost of training staff. All of these losses are far greater than the cost of training, as we all know, 'prevention is always better than cure'.

It is a good idea to maximise the knowledge delivered to staff during training, using a posters and signs around the workplace. They are an effective daily reminder.

Health and safety training is essential for the success of any company and should not be considered optional. An entirely hazard free, safe working environment is exactly what you and your staff deserve.

If you have not already taken care of this vital task, do not waste any more time. Find out what is on offer in your area by making some local enquiries.
