How Writing A List And Keeping It Handy Can Help You Remember

by Gil Orris

Everyone at one point or another complains about forgetting things. Our memories come into play every day of our lives. The better the memory you have, the more successful you can be in life. Below is a compilation of tips to help you develop and improve your memory.

Paying attention to what you are doing will help your memory. When studying or memorizing something, avoid distractions. Find an environment you are comfortable in. Learn how to focus on something, and if you can, find material that interest you. Focusing on something that interest you should be relatively easy.

Interact with people on a regular basis. Studies have shown that being active and social can keep stress and depression at bay. These factors are known to contribute to memory loss. The effect can worsen if you happen to live alone. Go out and mingle with people to combat memory loss.

A great tip for improving your memory is to ensure that your body stays hydrated. There is a direct relation to having enough water in your body and the ability to store and recall information. If your brain is not hydrated well then it will not function clearly.

Reducing distractions in your immediate environment will go a long way in helping you to remember something. Phones ringing, children screaming or horns honking are not conducive to memory for anyone so limit the amount of distractions your mind has to deal with, and you will increase your ability to remember!

If someone wants to remember something important they can tie a bright ribbon or other bright object around their finger or wrist. Every time that they see the bright object they will think of whatever it is that they need to remember. While this is not guaranteed it can be very helpful.

To remember things like turning off the water, place some object that will remind you in a place where you are likely to trip over it! If you have left the sprinklers on for half an hour while you go inside to eat, put your garden gloves in the kitchen sink or some other unlikely place. This will remind you to turn off the water!

A great way for you to improve your overall memory is to make sure that you're always focusing your attentions on whatever you're studying at the time. The goal here is knowledge retention. A failure to focus fully on the subject at hand means the information may not be retained properly.

As we age, memory loss can become a real problem. The best way to protect yourself from memory loss is to increase brain activity. Reading, doing crossword puzzles and learning something new like playing a musical instrument can keep your brain healthy and keep memory loss at bay.

As you've read in this article, keeping your memory healthy and strong is easy and can be fun! Use these tips to keep your mind sharp and enjoy the benefits of always having the name you need on the tip of your tongue, being able to find your keys, and remembering the milk!
