Reiki Art Certification Classes Are Conducted In Many Places

by Beverly C. Ralph

When beginning to learn, the student might take several introductory classes to find out more about the practice. He or she might not be interested in this Japanese technique. It is taught and practiced in each class. Many students go on to earn reiki art certification.

According to its practitioners, it is a form of alternative medicine. A Japanese Buddhist named Mikao Usui is the founder. It is believed that the recipient of its universal energy is receiving it through the palms of the administrator.

This transference of energy is said to promote healing in the body of the recipient. According to its practitioners, it is a universal life force based on qi, that heals. But, there has not been solid evidence that this has any medicinal value. Most refer to it as a pseudoscience rather than a science.

Becoming certified as a Reiki Art Master requires following a certain course of action. There is a specific class to qualify someone. There are prerequisites that have to be fulfilled before certification can be granted.

The first requirement is completion of Reiki I and II. The second is to have been practicing it for six months or more. The third requires drawing the three sacred symbols from memory.

The organization that provides the formal classes will award the certificate after that final requirement is fulfilled. Although there are many followers, reiki is not confirmed to have any medical value. No concrete evidence has been collected.

Some research has been done. It reveals no concrete evidence of any health benefits to be gained. Those who do feel improvement has taken place are most likely feeling better because it has a placebo effect. They feel improved simply because they believe they will be improved.

According to the many people who are critics of the practice, it is taking unfair advantage of people who are vulnerable due to age or illness. There is no harm caused by the reiki. However, when a person with a serious illness does not get treatment for that condition, he or she may suffer needless damage.

The Roman Catholic church disapproves of the practice. It is judged to be inappropriate because it is not compatible with Christian doctrine. Due to its lack of effectiveness it is not practiced in any Catholic hospitals or other health care institutions. No one associated with the Church is permitted to use it.

There are sacred symbols the Reiki Masters use in a practice known as attunement. First, he or she must reach the requisite level of attunement. Without having done that, they cannot administer to others with the necessary power. A symbol is traced in the air followed by the sacred name being repeated three times.
