Estriol is a metabolic product of Estradiol and Estrone created in the urine of pregnant women in high concentrations. It is produced by the fetal liver and in the placenta during pregnancy. The abnormal level of Estriol revel the abnormality in the development of a woman fetus and suggest for more tests and screening. So, doctors suggest the routine quad screen including Estriol test to check out the development. Another assumption about the Estriol is that it amount of formation can be controlled by the amount of estradiol present.

The Estriol creams are used by many of the people as they think it as a non toxic way to decrease the indicators related to menopausal and pre-menopausal including hot flashes and vaginal dryness. There are some researches that highlight the other important uses of Estriol, for instance it is found out that the pregnant woman having multiple sclerosis can also see the reduction in symptoms significantly.

The Estriol is further used in the screening and can be measures in the urine or blood of a woman have pregnancy. It is also used as an indicator of the heath of a pregnant woman as her adrenal cortex produces DHEA-S that is transformed in to Estriol by the help of placenta.

If a pregnant woman has abnormal low level of unconjugated Estriol, it states the existence of chromosomal or congenital anomalies in her. The common anomalies can be Edward's syndrome or Down syndrome. The Estriol also comprises along with the triple test and quadruple test to monitor for any fatal anomalies appropriately.

The Estriol also has some side effects like other forms of estrogen. Firstly, it might increase the risk of uterine cancer as it results in the simulation of growth of uterine tissues. According to a research, the women given Estriol orally had more uterine tissue simulation as compared to those who are not given any Estriol.

Some researches claim that Estriol do have some side effects like many types of estrogen. The major one is that raise the risk of uterine cancer due to the recreation of growth of uterine tissues. So, the women given Estriol orally are proved to be having more uterine tissue simulation against those that are not given Estriol. In short, there are many defensive effects are proved for the Estriol against other stronger estrogens, so it is a much safer to go for Estriol for the bioidentical hormone-replacement therapy than choosing other alternatives.
