There is actually more than one type of depression that people can suffer from. People can suffer from major depression, chronic depression and atypical depression. No matter which type you have, though, it's important that you work to defeat it. Here are some depression-fighting tips you can use to work through the more difficult times.

Dress up. When you dress nicely, your mood improves. Making yourself look and feel attractive can help to show yourself that you have importance. Knowing that you are at your best can make your health and mood better, and cause you to have a better outlook on life in general.

Never stop a medication on your own. Many people will start a new medication when they are feeling down then immediately stop taking it when they are feeling better. This is a terrible idea as it can actually cause you to feel even worse than you did initially. Always consult a doctor before stopping.

Experiencing depression when you have a small child can be exceptionally difficult. This is because they are unlikely to understand why mommy or daddy is so sad all the time. While you don't want to hide your problem from them you also don't want to expose them to your negativity.

Even if you do not feel like going out when you are depressed it is best that you do! Chances are that once you get there and start socializing you will be glad you did. Isolation is one of the worst parts of depression as it only eventually makes things worse.

Getting adequate sunlight, especially during the early morning, can help relieve some of the symptoms of depression in your life. If you have difficulty accessing light in the morning, get a full spectrum lamp to help you. Both are proven methods to assist in positively changing the chemical composition in your body.

A great tip that can help you out of your depression is to write your own poetry. Writing poetry can be very cathartic and therapeutic. Not only, will writing poetry help you get out of your depression, you'll also have a genuine work of art that you can be proud of.

If you are feeling depressed, there is no better way to combat those thoughts than to dance. This will get your body moving and get the blood flowing through your body and to your brain. Although when depressed exercise is not appealing, get up and force yourself to dance. Play happy uplifting music and stretch those muscle and move. Your body, soul, and mind will be happier for it.

Different types of depression are treated differently, but the emphasis here is on the word "treated." Every type of depression needs to be properly treated, and unless you're willing to treat your disorder, you are never going to get rid of it.
