Ask A Top ENT A Question About Your Sinus Problems

by Grace Calhoun

The well-known ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) specialist Dr. Murray Grossan has begun a unique new service that can help people address their sinus problems. On the Facebook page for the Grossan Institute, the doctor will answer specific and personal questions from people who are sinus sufferers.

The procedure to ask a personal question is very simple, and you only have to have a Facebook account to do so. You also need to click on the "Like" button on the Grossan Institute page before asking your question which will be answered by the doctor himself or a member of his staff. You can find the Grossan Institute Facebook page through one of the links in the resource box below.

The author of a number of different sinus treatment related books, Dr. Grossan's work includes the best selling "The Sinus Cure- Seven Simple Steps". This book has been a huge help to many sinus sufferers throughout the years, including the author of this article. In addition, he invented the idea of using pulsating nasal irrigation to clear out nasal passages and sinus cavities.

With this technique pulsating jets of a saline solution enter one side of the nose. The saline solution clears out the nasal and sinus passages while stimulating the cilia therein. Cilia are very tiny hair-like linings which appear in the sinus cavities and other parts of the respiratory system. Their job is to move mucus that forms in the nose such that it falls down into the stomach.

It is the cilia in your nasal passages that keep mucus moving such that proper drainage can occur. Without proper drainage a person will have blockages. Often bacteria accumulate and sinus infections occur.

Sinus problems are complex because there can be many different reasons people have them. Allergies are often a trigger, but polyps in the nasal passages or fungal reactions can also be a problem for people. Some people simply do not respond well to the standard treatments, and others have gone through multiple painful sinus operations only to find that they continue to have infections after all that. It is for that reason that Dr. Grossan's personalized responses can make a huge difference for sinus sufferers.
