Building The Best Patient Handouts

by Stella Gay

As professionals in the medical world, it is your job to make things simpler for those who are sick. Begin with the handouts that would make them aware of what they have to go through. This would prepare them for the worst. When that happens, then you can expect them to be calm in the operating table.

The first thing that you would have to do in here is write like a sixth grade. Your patient handouts do not have to look like your papers for you doctorate degree. It needs to be something that a lot of individuals would be able to understand since not everybody is fortunate enough to have gone to school.

Second, have this two syllable rule. However, this rule is actually something that you can break from time to time. Learn to define the true meaning of an easy read along the way. Once you already have a tight grip on this subject, then you will be able to stop yourself from explaining where cancer came from.

Third, be an expert in using bullets to emphasize your points and explain them in the most brief way possible. Be reminded that you cannot go further than three sentences in here. Most people tend to have low attention span. So, the only way to keep them around is make them see that the handouts are quite brief in general.

Gather the points that are needed to be known by the people out there. If you are confused as to which one should be first, then you can always ask for the opinion of your colleagues. In that way, you will be able to see in which your brochures will be inefficient to your targeted market. You will have a fresh voice.

You would also have to proceed with the treatment procedures immediately. Give these people a glimpse on the things that they can expect to happen to them. Never write anything that is not true. These people have already accepted the fact that they are sick which means that the cure is what they are seeking now.

You would need to put the most important points in the first part of the paper. In that way, these points would retain in the minds of your audience. They would know what to do in the lab and they would be less afraid as well. That is how you can make their lives easier for them to handle.

You would have to avoid all of those medical jargons. Keep in mind that you would be writing for ordinary people and not to your former classmates in medical school. So, try to write like you have never studied medicine and consult the members of your family with the final output.

Overall, you have to think more like your patients in the coming days. Determine the things that you want to know from a piece of paper. That is how you can be successful with this medical project of yours.
