Very Low Calorie Diets - The Truth

by Bob Steele

It only makes sense that a diet where you eat very little calories would be the answer to weight loss, but it is a good idea to do a little research before you begin. These type of diets can be effective if you're careful, and preferably under a doctor's supervision, but they aren't healthy for everyone. In this article, we'll be taking a close look at very low calorie diets and what's good and not so good about them.

The main advantage to very low calorie diets is that they can help obese patients who are suffering from weight-related medical conditions lose weight quickly. They can lose up to 20 lbs per month as it's possible to lose 5 lbs each week on this kind of diet. This is extremely beneficial to anybody who may suffer from high cholesterol, heart disease, hypertension or diabetes and it can even save lives. This type of weight loss is best done with the guidance of a doctor, especially if you're being treated for a health condition already. It's also important to work with your doctor at establishing a plan to maintain your weight loss for the long term.

The Rice Diet is a diet that was developed in the 1930s by a doctor named Walter Kempner, who found that a diet that consisted mainly of rice could be useful for treating certain diseases such as hypertension and kidney diseases. This is a low calorie diet that can also help people to lose weight. You consume more foods than rice alone; however rice is eaten with every meal. The advantage of the Rice Diet is that it cuts out processed foods, and is extremely low in fat, salt and sugar. Most people will not prefer to stay on this diet for any length of time, given its strong nature.

In the hCG Diet, a very low calorie diet along with some hormone injections that help to lose weight loss are used.

Pregnant women naturally produce hCG, which is short for Human Choriogonadotropin. Dr. Simeons created a book back in the 1950s saying about how this hormone could be used to assist people in consuming less and not feeling hungry by simply having these hormones injected into them. The hCG Diet is very controversial, and many experts believe it hasn't been proven safe. Before going on the hCG Diet you must do some research on what both sides say. Picking the diet plan that's best for you can be difficult, and because very low calorie diets promise rapid weight loss they can be all too tempting. However, caution should be used when approaching them, unless you have a medical professional supervising your diet. Very low calorie diets can be dangerous without the right guidance.
